Carol R. Sher, 91, of Los Angeles, Calif., died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, in Santa Monica, Calif.

 

She was the youngest of four children born to Michael Sher and Sarah Cohen Sher, immigrants to Superior in 1894 from Anikst, Lithuania. Carol's father, Michael, owned and operated a small grocery store in Superior and also served as president of the West Superior Synagogue.

 

Carol Sher was born, raised and schooled in Superior including Superior State Teachers College. She then worked for the local radio station where she hosted her own radio show before relocating to the warmer climates of Tucson, Ariz., and then Los Angeles. While residing in California, she was an employee of the Carnation Co. until her retirement.

 

She will be remembered for her ready wit and keen sense of humor, and for living independently to the end.

 

She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Edward Sher; and sisters Ruth Sher and Harriet Sher Zola.

 

Carol is survived by her nieces, Elizabeth Sher and Janet Zola; nephews Allan L. Sher and Michael Sher Zola; and many cousins, including the Kaner family of Cloquet.

 

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Superior Hebrew Cemetery with Phillip Sher officiating. Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Avenue and 19th Street is assisting the family with arrangements.

Carol R Sher, 91, of Los Angeles, CA, died Friday, February 11, 2011 in Santa Monica, CA.
